Jeanette was one of the most influential mentors I’ve been fortunate to have in my career. A fierce competitor who burned twice as bright as everyone around her, Jeanette will be missed by everyone whose lives she has touched.
In 1997 Jeanette flew me cross-country from Ascend HQ in Alameda, CA to visit UUNET in Fairfax, VA in her turbo-prop Mooney, the first aircraft she bought after earning her pilot’s license. The memory of that trip will be with me forever as an incredible experience—not just for the vistas from the air and the glimpse into the world of private air travel, but also for the personal time spent with Jeanette outside of the office.
Jeanette was Shogun to my Samurai, and her code of Bushido was the most demanding I’ve ever experienced firsthand. The four years I spent in her presence forged me into the professional person I am.
