This may come as a surprise to outsiders, but the online gameplay of Call of Duty 4 really is superior to Halo 3, and online gamers are deserting Halo for CoD4 in droves.
One of the things Infinity Ward did right for CoD4 is an achievement grid which gives you the player access to better weapons and abilities as you accumulate experience. So every map is no longer a sprint for the rocket launcher at the center of the map.
