Greenpeace “name our mascot whale” contest pwned by script kiddie. Even with his votes removed, Mr. Splashy Pants has enough momentum for a landslide victory.

Google Checkout for Nonprofits: Network For Good's... →
— begin quote The best part: it’s completely free for the organizations. Through at least the end of 2008, non-profits will pay 0% + 0 cents in transaction fees for each donation they accept through Checkout. And that means donors can support these groups knowing that 100 percent of their donations will reach their charity. — end quote (note: Tumblr’s support of...

MP3tunes Music Locker: Your Music Everywhere →
My friend Brandon mentioned this music backup service, and I’m giving their free version a try. Anyone have experience with this service, or other backup services? $40/yr for unlimited storage, with a nice upload/sync tool for Mac and streaming from their servers seems like a decent deal. I’m also looking for S3-based services which provide more than just storage.

Where is 'Everything Is Miscellaneous' Filed?
Today at lunch I stopped by the Harvard Coop to pick up David Weinberger’s Everything is Miscellaneous, which I’ve been meaning to pick up for the longest time. I had a brief but smirkingly meta moment when I asked the woman behind the computronic catalogterminal where I might find this book in the store. Technology? Library Science? Maybe both?

Red Sox' Pedroia named AL Rookie of the Year →
Absolutely nobody’s pick for Rookie of the Year on May 1, but the obvious choice at the end of the season. Congratulations to Dustin, and to Terry Francona, who stuck with Pedroia tenaciously after the rookie started the season hitting below .200. Right again, Terry!

Manning throws 6 interceptions as Colts lose to... →
“Two weeks after breaking Johnny Unitas’ franchise record of 287 touchdown passes, Manning passed the Hall of Famer again, but not in a way he’ll want to remember. The previous franchise records for interceptions was five, done seven times, including four by Unitas. Manning had thrown just four interceptions coming into the game.”

[done] Health Insurance →
I just knocked off the biggest item from my TODO list, and it turned out to be much easier than I expected. A year ago self-employed workers needed to join some hokey association or try to get some broker’s attention, and the choices were limited and expensive. Now the Massachusetts state Health Connector makes it easy to shop for and enroll in a health insurance plan for individuals and...

OpenCoffee Nov 8: Facebook Apps
Bijan Sabet is hoping to revitalize OpenCoffee Cambridge this week with a focused discussion on Facebook Apps. It will be interesting to see if the open networking and discussion format, which I really like, can be constrained to a particular topic. And whether it’s really a good idea. For me, the big question about FB Apps would be, is the platform viable at all?
